About Daman-Diu:

Situated
on the southern border of the state of Gujarat, off the Saurashtra coast bordering
Junagadh district, is the Union Territory of Daman and Diu. A colony held by
the Portuguese for a long period even after India got independence, Daman and
Diu became a part of the erstwhile Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu in
1961. When Goa was conferred with statehood in 1987, Daman and Diu became a
separate Union Territory.

Daman-Diu Places to See:

Nani
Daman:
has some interesting sites like Fort of St. Jerome or Nani Daman Fort. The most
conspicuous part of the fort is the giant gateway facing the river with a large
statue of St. Jerome who was one of the most eminent priest of the Catholic
Church. The principal building inside the fort is the imposing church of Our
Lady of the Sea. This Catholic Church is one of the ancient seats of office
and has a fine altar with superb paneling.

How to Reach There:
By Rail:
Nearest railhead is Vapi just about 12 Kms. Vapi is on the main railway line
between Delhi and Mumbai. All major Express/Mail and Local trains stoppage are
accessible at Vapi. Taxi Service is available between Daman & Vapi on charge
per head basis. Other nearby railway head is Valsad Jn. just about 35 Kms.
