Day 02 : Bangalore - Mysore by surface (135 km) Morning depart for Mysore enroute visiting Srirangapatna On arrival in Mysore check-in at the hotel.Later a city tour of Mysore visiting the Palace and the Art Gallery.An option to visit Chamundi Hill in the evening to see the lights of Mysore. Srirangapatnam this island fortress of the legendary warrior is 16 km from Mysore city.Inside the fortress is Tipus mosque with its twin minarets,the celebrated Ranganatha Swamy temple,the Wellesley Bridge and the dungeons where British officers were once imprisoned.Eqully impressive is the ornate white domed Gumbaz.About 1 km to the east of the fort is the Daria Daulat,the summer palace of Tipu Sultan now converted into a museum. Mysore part city,part small town was erstwhile capital of the Wodeyars the rulers of Mysore.Mysores charm is unique.The City Royale is famous for its opulent palaces,stately buildings,sprawling gardens,silks,sandalwood and myriad tourist attractions in its proximity. Mysore Palace built in 1912 in the Indo Saracenic style,this palace excudes grandeur that is unmatched. Chamundi Hills towering over the city of Mysore.Half-way up is the Nandi Bull, a majestic 4.8 metre monolith.Right on top is the 2000 year old Chamundeshwari Temple, the patron goddess of the Wodeyars.The summit offers a panoramic view of Mysore's lakes, parks and palaces. Somnathpur,the Chenna Kesava Temple situated in the village of Somnathpur,35 Km from Mysore,the exquisitely carved,star-shaped temple with triple towers is a typical example of Hoysala architecture.Beautifully sculptured images of gods and goddesses and the scenes from the epics Ramayana and Mahabarat as well as the remarkably ornate ceilings in the pillared hall will take your breadth away. Overnight at the hotel. Day 04 : Mysore Belur & Halebid by surface ( 180 km) Morning proceed to Halebid & Belur via the town of Hassan enroute visiting Shravanbelgola. Shravanbelgola, a prominent Jain pilgrimage centre in Hassan districy0. Is home to Asias largest monolithic statue. Lord Gomateshwara here towers 58ft. Belur is today famous for its ancient exquisite temples. The Chennakeshava Temple being the finest example of the Hoyasala architecture it took 103 years to complete. The façade of the temple is filled with intricate sculptures and friezes with no portion left blank. Elephants, episodes from the epics, sensuous dancers they are all there-awe inspiring in their intricate workmanship. The Veeranarayan Temple and the smaller shrines are well worth a visit. Halebid the temples of Halebid like those of Belur, bear mute testimony to the rich, cultural heritage of Karnataka. The Hoysaleswara Temple, dating back to the 12th century, is astounding for its wealth of sculpture details. The walls of the temple are covered with an endless variety of gods and goddess, animals, birds and dancing girls. Yet no two facets of the temple are the same. This magnificent temple-guarded by a Nandi Bull-was never completed, despite 86 years of labour. Overnight at the hotel. ![]() Day 05 : Hassan Hospet Morning travel north to Hospet the base from which to visit the Vijanagar City ruins near the village of Hampi. Hampi holds many a delightful surprises.The most famous is the Kings Balance where kings were weighed against gold or money and which was then distributed to the poor.Also worth a visit are the Queens Bath with its arched corridors,projecting balconies and lotus shaped fountains,the two storied Lotus Mahal,the huge Elephant stables,the splendid Vitthala Temple with its musical pillars and the Stone Chariot,the Virupaksha Temple,Ugra Narashima,the 6.7 meters tall monolith,the Pushkarini Tank,the Mahanavami Dibba,etc. Temples of this city are noted for their dimensions,florid ornamation,bold and delicate carvings,stately pillars,magnificient pavilions and a great wealth of iconographic and traditional depictions which include subjects from Ramayana and Mahabharata.The Pampapati temple is one of the largest temples at Hampi.The Vitthala Temple is an excellent example of Vijayanagara style. Also present are some monolithic statues of Lakshmi,Narashima and Ganesha which are noted for their massiveness and grace. Overnight at the hotel. Day 06 : Hampi Morning sightseeing tour of Hampi.Overnight stay at the hotel. Day 07 : Hospet Badami Morning leave for Badami.On Arrival check in at Hotel. Afternoon sightseeing of Badami. Badami was once the capital of Chaulakyas.It has four rock cut cave temples,the largest being the third cave dedicated to Vishnu.Overlooking the temples is a reservoir,its banks dotted with temples dedicated to Vishnu and Shiva.The Bhutanatha Temples and the Museum set up by the Archeological Survey of India,are the other attractions. full day excursion to Pattadakkal and Ajhole and return to Badami. Pattadakal is a World Heritage centre and has 10 major temples representing the early Chaulakya architecture the biggest temple dedicated to Virupaksheshvara,has a huge gateway and several inscriptions.In front of the temple is a majestic 2.6 m high Nandi. Ajhole has over 125 temples all intricately carved and rich in detail.The oldest temple is perhaps the 5th century Lad Khan Temple,The Durga (Fort) Temple has a semi-circular apse and a complete portico.The Hutchmalli Temple,the Ravalphadi Cave Temple,the Konti Temple Complex,the Uma Maheshwari ,the Jain Meguthi Temple and the two storeyed Buddhist Temple are the other attractions.
