Day 01: Arrive Kolkata
Upon your arrival at Kolkata you will be met and greeted by our representative
and escorted to your hotel in the city for the overnight.
Day
02: Kolkata
Bhubaneswar (by train) In the morning visit the Indian museum with an ornate
collection of artifacts. Also worth a visit is the flower market near the
water front. Then passing through the government buildings reach the Jain
temple in South Calcutta. In time board your express train to Bhubaneswar.
Upon arrival check into your hotel.
Day 03: Bhubaneswar
Leave for a full day excursion to Konark and Puri.At Puri visit the Jagannath
temple complex dating back to the 11th century and marvel at the feat of man
and his ingenious in making of these mammoth size temples and sanctums. In
Konark see the sun temple dedicated to the sun god with his chariot pulled
by horses and mammoth sized chariot wheels made out of sand stone. Afeast
to the eyes. Return to Bhubaneshwar via Pipli where you will find people making
the and practicing the art of weaving and lycra.
Day 04: Bhubaneswar
In the morning visit the temple town of Bhubaneswar including a visit to Rajarani
temple and the Lingaraj temple. In the afternoon visit Nuapatna (weaving village)
and Sadeibarini (dokra casting village).
Day
05: Bhubaneswar - Baliguda
In the morning drive to Baliguda enroute visiting Khandagiri and Udaygiri
caves. These are the twin hills 7 kms. from Bhubaneshwar. The 135 ft high
Udaygiri and 118 ft high Khandagiri hills have ancient caves. Khandagiri means
"broken hill" and Udaygiri means "hill of the sunrise."
The caves on the two low hills of Udaygiri and Khandagiri give ample proof
of Jain and Buddhist occupation. The twin hills known as Khandagiri and Udaygiri
contain varieties of rock-cut caves. Dating back to the 2nd century BC, some
of the caves have beautiful carvings. The Rani Gumpha (Queen's Cave) - one
of the largest and double-storied is ornately embellished with beautiful carvings.
Continue towards Baliguda and visit some tribal villages and talking to the
Koundh tribes. This is your first introduction to the Oriya Tribes. (Must
be a Monday)
Day 06: Baliguda - Rayagada
In the morning after breakfast continue towards Raygada enroute visiting Kutia
Kondh Tumudibandh Area and Kotgarh Market of Kutia Kondh tribes. Overnight
at Raygada. (Must be a Tuesday)
Day 07: Rayagada - Jeypore
Drive to Jeypore visiting Dongariya Kondh Tribal Market at Chatikona. Overnight
at Jeypore. (Must be a Wednesday
Day 08: Jeypore
Excursion to Onukadoli to visit the most colorful Bonda, Gadaba & Didayi
tribes and some Gadaba villages. Overnight at Jeypore. (Must be a Thursday)
Day 09: Jeypore - Taptapani
Drive to Taptapani and enroute visit the Paraja tribes market (Must be a Friday).
Overnight at OTDC Panthanivas.
Day 10: Taptapani - Bhubaneshwar - Kolkata
Continue towards Bhubaneshwar via Chilika lake at Barkul. (Boating optional)
Reach Bhubaneshwar and board your overnight train Puri Express to Kolkata.
Day 11: Kolkata
Upon arrival at the railway station you will be met by our local staff and
then transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
